We take some time in Specularuam. But as it is the 5th of Flaurmont, and the weather warms, we know that we must push on with business. Lindsay has been very productive while we were away. She has been mastering the creation of some very useful spell-potions. David has been aiding her in with funding and I agree to help this time as well. I’m impressed with her speedy mastery, we purchase a scroll of knock for her to learn.
As we talk to her, she informs us that she feels constrained in the specularuam school, and we eventually allow her to join us, but we must be careful as she has little experience in a fight. We’ll have to watch out for her.
Sergei takes some time to scry. It will aid us in planning our next actions. We gaze into the mirror and he first divines the image of Lady Ilyana. She is in a dark cell. Voices around her keep referring to a master and name her a Ilendoref. Then someone tells them to get prepared and to go to a place called Nulb. We have a lead.
Next Sergei focuses on the Bishop Omner. However, after getting cloudy the mirror returns to showing our reflections, we’ll need to try again. On the next day we again search for Omner, this time we find him. He is in some ruins and there is a broken statue of Petra. The ruins of Krakatos hold an old temple to Petra, this must be what he had meant in his letter.
We also try to divine the whereabouts of Mordez. He is in some stone hall. He is speaking to a dog-faced creature that wields a mighty axe. Could this be one of the Ugnoll from the time of Halav, which Crogbrak has been afraid of?
On the 6th after scrying, we gather together to discus our options. Nulb is a tiny town on the edge of the crutch mountains between the Five Shire and Darokin. Lord Finn is somewhere in Darokin, so he might be there. We would like to go there, and deal with him, but we must find Omner first.
We go to the ruins of Krakatos, at once and find the temple of Petra. I have brought my new friend and companion, Huan the mighty hound. He goes to see if it is a trap, but recoils from the evil presence. We head in with our lights and spread out. David casts detect undead.
Sergei calls out to him, and Omner turns around and looks to us surprised. He seems blind. He looks to be in great pain, and warns us that we shouldn’t be here. We get to him, and he tells us of Mordez. Mordez defeated the bishop and left him here with this foul spell upon him. He tells us that Mordez and his master seek the relics of the immortal 3, and those of some one known as Hazar.
As he gives his all to finish telling us his tale, his face goes gaunt and his eyes fill with the cold blue fire of undeath. Poor soul. Even now Sergei tries to dispel the wretched curse, but we have neither the power nor the time, as David calls out that undead approach.
We have to engage in battle, old corpses reanimated, and wraiths and shadows all come for us. We slay the abominations, but it is terrible the fate befallen Omner. Still we must return. We will carry the news to Sergei’s order and then head out to Darokin.
We were planning on going by the Slyther Wyr to the south of Darokin, it would be the fastest, but at the Church of Halav, Alexius tells us about a friend in Selenica. It would be out of our way, but this man has great knowledge of history and the divine. We decide it will be worth it to see him before attempting to find Lord Finn in this far away place we know little of.
On the 7th we head out, but stop by the ruined temple of Petra to consecrate the unhallowed ground. As we continue to travel we meet a dozen young humans wearing brown robes. They say that they are are pilgrims for the awakening. I do not know this. But when they make odd serpent symbols as a greeting it gives me a bad feeling.
By the 14th we reach Selenica. We go to the shrine to Vanya to find brother Kalos Madur, the historian we were sent to inquire of. He is old for a human with a hooked noise, white wispy hair, and glasses. We ask about the temple by Nulb. He is interested by this and eventually finds a tomb, one exceptionally old for a human library. It dates back to AC 300, the time of Corin I.
The tomb references a crusade, where forces of good came together to fight some great evil. Many immortals were involved in the events leading to this climax. A temple of evil was built, its power from the elements. A curel perversion of something so pure.
The deepest level had a great demon.After their wars the temple was leveled, but the underworks were left. Something was bound down there, perhaps the demon that was referenced.
We find a spot that the temple used to be, it is near present day Gromlet. It is there that we will search.
We take the opportunity to ask some more things of this knowledgable historian. He tells us a bit about Demegorgon, the Dark Lady. And he goes over the story of Balthac. He is able to corroborate some of our suspicions, but has few new insights for us.
After eight more days of travel we approach our goal. On the 21st was near Gromlet, and the Temple of Elemental Evil.
