Arcanium and the castle from Alphatia
We got up again on the morning of the 26th of Thalmont to return to the streets of Arcanium. Luigi takes us to lunch and we have an other tasty meal. We take Salhadin to the Game Lizard’s and look about for some books and keep an eye out for the rings of prizes. Salhadin looses a brown pudding shot and almost causes a fiasco with an uppity Glantri woman, until Carlos comes over and shows the woman that she had gotten a prize. She got a rod of splendor. Thaljin finds a minor ring and gets some peculiar pan pipes of magical rat calling or something. Salhadin gets some books on fortifications and the keeps that he has found interest in, Thaljin got one on golems.
We head over to the open market, some sales are made and I leave with a potion of water breathing since I am still looking to hunt the sewer beast still. Salhadin and Elias are with me in our enthusiasm to find the monster but our guide Luigi is not being so cooperative.
While at the market, we spy a student causing an illusion of the sewer monster in the water. Eventually Thaljin has to save the young man from being arrested for his actions. The student is a servant of “Red Titan.”
We head to another restaurant, the Golden Imp, and while we are sitting at the bar Luigi goes and surprises us with some tickets to a play (with Elias’ money). It was a great play about the 40 year’s war. It had some fantastic parts like a troll creature being immolated on stage with live magic. We see Prince Vandrakenfields in the theatre as well. We head to bed for the night.
The next morning we try to convince Luigi to help us to hunt the sewer beast. He takes us to a run down part of town and we soon see something. Salhadin engages and finds that his scabbard seems to have enchanted his new blade. The scimitar dances out of its sheath and slays the crock. We retrieve it but it is not the monster they are looking for. We start to suspect that there is no beast and that the monster hunter’s guild is just having mundaners like us clear out the canals for us. I went back to the market and spent some quality money on some gauntlet os ogre empowerment, which perhaps is empowering my flatulence, I’ll keep that in mind the next time I need to interogate someone.
Later that day a man approaches Thaljin, he seems to be perhaps yalari or maybe darokin, and I didn’t catch his name. I didn’t get most of the situation at first, where this man came from. I think it had something to do with the school and the man knew Thaljin from his reputation at the school. But we decided to go to Alphatia. There was some sort of open estate due to a recent, and perhaps less known of, death. We seek out Prince Vandrakenfields, to get passage to the area. The prince agrees and for a favor and some coin we make our way over there.
Thaljin teleports us to Lasir, Alphatia. It is a fantastic place. When I was raised in Darokin I had seen pictures and heard tales of Glantri, and I had been taught of their war with Alphatia. This land is beyond even the realm of Glantri and the tales I had heard with floating buildings all over and evidence of magic all around. We realize in our haste, none of us speak Alphatian, luckily many of them seem to speak Thyatian. We quickly meet Thendain Thelmore, a priest of Alphatia. What the title of priest means in this land, I do not know, but I don’t press the matter. He boasts of his nation, which I can’t really blame him for. And we try to avoid saying that we are here to take a dead man’s belongings. We do inquire of the deceased wizard, fainting that we are unaware of his passing, and Thendain leads us to an estate with the wizard’s heir moving in.
We thank him and look at our map. It is showing someplace else, so we go there. We look around a bit, confused at first. We eventually look up and Thaljin flies up to find a floating castle. We go up. We meet a suit of armor floating with some sort of unnatural wind. It asks, “master, will you set me free now?” and Thaljin says yes after brief deliberation. The seneschal, as we find out that it is, floats away into the breeze. We explore the place and find it empty of life, and seemingly ready for new control. Thaljin mounts the throne and finds that he can control the castle. In the castle there are tons of weapons, a dungeon, a wizard’s library of great size, a treasury with piles of gold and silver. All of it extra dimensional which seems to have been the late owner’s specialty.
We can scarcely believe our luck, and are wondering what bad could come of this. We did find that the castle was sinking. Either the wizard’s death had left the castle without it’s dragon soul to power it, Or the dismissal of the seneschal caused it’s untimely fall. We discerned that we could float it all the way to Glantri still, so we decide to take it back to Blofield.
Now we have some time on our hands. I am thinking that I might look to the books that I bought on the plane of fire. We may be heading that way and information will be quite necessary.
